High Hopes for Homelessness

You may know that our big dream is to build healing communities that combine sustainable urban development with accessible healing services to help residents heal from chronic illnesses including PTSD. That’s why we get so excited when we see other people with the same heart for the hurting. For example, this article about Community First, a private charitable housing organization, describes a new model to tackle Austin, Texas’ increasing homelessness epidemic:

  • Tiny homes or RVs with super-low rent
  • Communal bathrooms and kitchens
  • Free communal vegetable gardens
  • Local economy of paid services
  • Missional (non-homeless) neighbors
  • Optional sobriety and mental health services
  • Partnerships with volunteer organizations

I love seeing new approaches to tackling chronic problems in a more holistic way!
